To support my awesome lifestyle, it would take five earths to provide enough resources for everyone to live equally. I also use up 22.4 global acres of Earth’s productive area, which is twenty-three tons of carbon dioxide. I know, it seems pretty ridiculous, I’m shocked myself. An ecological footprint is pretty much the amount of resources you use personally, based off your lifestyle. It also shows a form of reality, proving how many resources earth can actually provide for you, and whether your demands are being met or not. I think it relates to us because it shows us how “needy” we may be in some cases, and how cutting back really wouldn’t be too difficult. We use this measure to interpret what we use more or less on a day to day basis, and how we can change some of those aspects. To reduce my own footprint, I would cut back in mobility section. It says that I use transportation such as my car, and flying very frequently. I already know I spend way too much money on gas as it is so instead of using my car, I plan on walking, or in my current situation crutching/getting “wheeled” around in my wheelchair by my roommate and friends. I’m hoping that not only will this save me some extra gas money but will also help out the economy and improve my ecological footprint. I believe if everyone were to try this method out, our world would change immensely. If citizens put their couple dollars towards community busses or bought bikes or skateboards to get around, I know gas prices would lower immensely and we wouldn’t be living in such an expensive and somewhat dangerous world.
